#420: Kyoto Municipal Zoo (category: zoo)
The Kyoto Municipal Zoo is the second oldest zoo in Japan, after the Ueno Zoo (refer to #369). It is located at the foot of Mt. Daimonji (refer to #040) standing in the east side of Kyoto City (refer to #035).
Around the zoo are several famous sites such as the Heian Shrine, Nanzen-ji Temple, and the Kyoto Municipal Museum of Art. It is also unofficially called the Okazaki Zoo, deriving from the area name.
