Nakaumi is the fifth largest lake in Japan, after Lake Biwa (refer to #483), Lake Kasumigaura (refer to #484), Lake Saroma (refer to #485), and Lake Inawashiro (refer to #486).

The lake is located between Shimane and Tottori Prefectures, both of which occupy the north side of the Chugoku region (refer to #140). Also, it is linked with Ohashi River to Lake Shinji, the seventh largest one.
