Kii Oshima

Kii Oshima is an island located in the ocean to the south of Wakayama Prefecture, or ancient Kii region (refer to #276). The Japanese word "oshima" is "big island" in English.

In 1890, Ottoman frigate Ertugrul sank near Kii Oshima. When the accident occurred, the local people saved a few passengers. It is said that this incident solidified the friendship between Turkey and Japan.
