Hybrid Vehicles are not limited to cars and include other transportations such as trains, ships, and airplanes. But in Japan, people usually associate Hybrid Vehicles with automobiles and they are called Hybrid Cars.

Many of the Japanese aren't familiar with the word "vehicle". It is the reason why they tend to prefer the word "car". However, when people use the abbreviation for the cars, they are generally called HV (Hybrid Vehicle) or HEV (Hybrid Electric Vehicle), neither HC (Hybrid Car) nor HEC (Hybrid Electric Car).
