#143: Hokkaido Chiho (category: region)
Hokkaido is one of Five Major Islands in Japan (refer to #061) and the island's name is also used for the region's. "Hokkaido Chiho" can be paraphrased as "Hokkaido Region" and it is equal to the Hokkaido Island itself.
Despite its large size, this region consists of only one prefecture, Hokkaido Prefecture. It is the most northerly, by far the largest, and the most sparsely populated among all 47 prefectures in Japan.
