#521: Izumo-taisha (category: shrine)
Izumo-taisha or Izumo Oyashiro is one of the most prestigious Shinto shrines in Japan. It is located in Shimane Prefecture. Izumo is an ancient name of the eastern part of the prefecture.
The word "taisha" means "great shrine" or "huge shrine" in English and "oyashiro" is another pronunciation of "taisha". Its main building is designated as a national treasure.
