Kumano Hongu Taisha

Kumano Hongu Taisha is one of Kumano Sanzan, three of the most prestigious shrines in this area. Also, it is a component of "Sacred Sites and Pilgrimage Routes in the Kii Mountain Range" (refer to #276), one of the World Heritage Sites in Japan.

Omine Okugake-michi, a famous pilgrimage road in this area, connects Mount Yoshino (refer to #277) and Kumano Hongu Taisha. There are more than 3,000 Kumano shrines throughout Japan and all of them have originated from these Kumano Sanzan.
