#298: Toba Aquarium (category: aquarium)
Toba Aquarium is a public aquarium, located next to Mikimoto Pearl Island (refer to #297), in Toba City, Mie Prefecture. It was opened in 1955 to attract visitors of Mikimoto Pearl Island to the aquarium.
It consists of 12 zones and displays about 1,200 species, the largest number found in Japan. Also, it has gathered more than 60 million people to date and is often regarded as one of the most popular aquariums in this country.
