Idemitsu Museum of Arts in Tokyo opened in 1966 to display the art collection of the late Sazo Idemitsu, the founder of Idemitsu Kosan Co., Ltd.
At the request of Kitakyushu City, where the company was founded, Idemitsu Museum of Arts, Moji opened in 2000 in Mojiko (or Moji Port) Retro District.
