Akita-inu Japan

Akita-inu is one of the six major dog breeds in Japan and the only large breed among them. Akita is also the name of a prefecture in the Tohoku area (refer to #136) and the dog breed is native to Akita Prefecture.

Symbolically, Hachiko (refer to #113), the most famous dog in Japanese history, was Akita-inu. Thanks to the fame of legendary Hachiko, the dog breed is well known for its loyalty to its owner.
