Maruoka Castle, located in Sakai City, Fukui Prefecture, is one of 12 Existing Tenshu in Japan. (The word "Tenshu" means the highest tower in a Japanese castle.)
It is often said that the tenshu of Maruoka Castle is the oldest one of existing tenshu. Also, the tenshu is designated as an Important Cultural Property by the Japanese government.
