#724: Hougai (category: artist)
Hougai Kano was a Japanese painter in the 19th century, who was regarded as one of the last painters belonging to the Kano school, a prestigious faction of nihon-ga (Japanese-style paintings).
Hougai was the eighth head of a branch of Kano school, the origin which goes all the way back to the days of Shoei Kano (refer to #707). Also, he was an apprentice of Tadanobu Kano (refer to #723).
