#971: Iwate (category: prefecture)
Iwate Prefecture is located in the northeastern part of Honshu Island (refer to #062). It is the second largest prefecture in Japan by area after Hokkaido (refer to #061).
Facing the Pacific Ocean, Iwate was severely damaged by the Tohoku earthquake and tsunami that occurred on March 11th, 2011.
