#700: Jakuchu (category: artist)
Jakuchu Ito was a Japanese painter in the 18th century. Born as the first son of a fruit and vegetable wholesaler working in Kyoto (refer to #035), he himself ran the family business eventually.
After he retired at the age of 40, he started drawing in earnest. His minutely drawn paintings were very popular in his days. In recent decades, they have been regaining the once-faded popularity.
