#743: Ryu-u (category: artist)
Ryu-u Shimazaki was a Japanese painter in the 19th and 20th centuries. He was an apprentice of Fuko Matsumoto (refer to #738) and also a disciple of Gyokusho Kawabata (refer to #733).
His father was a scholar of the Chinese classics. When Ryu-u went to an elementary school, he was closely acquainted to Soseki Natsume, one of the most beloved novelists in the history of Japanese literature.
