#596: Unzen Church (category: church)
Unzen Jigoku (literally meaning Unzen Hell) is a hot spring on Mount Unzen (refer to #548), belonging to Unzen-Amakusa National Park (refer to #400).
Many Christians were tortured in Unzen Jigoku and martyred in the 17th century. The current church was built in 1981 for the martyrs, some of whom were beatified in 2008.
