Kimpu

Kimpu Maeda was a Japanese painter in the 19th and 20th centuries. She was an apprentice of Fuko Matsumoto (refer to #738), who gave her the name of "Kimpu."

Fuko highly evaluated Kimpu and recommended her to become a disciple of Hougai Kano (refer to #724), a great master of Kano school. She was a forerunner as a successful female painter in Japan.
