Description

From the time of his sensational debut in 1996 to the present thirty years later, Dr. MORI Hiroshi has published more than 380 works in Japan alone and is known for his "MORI Mystery," which has sold 17 million copies. This book is the complete edition that includes all Chapters 1-12 of "Jack the Poetical Private." It is the fourth installment in the S & M (Saikawa and Moe) series, following "The Perfect Insider," the monumental masterpiece that reshaped the history of Japanese mystery fiction, and "Doctors In the Isolated Room," Dr. MORI's maiden work, and "Mathematical Goodbye."

The body of a murdered female university student was discovered on the campus of S Women's University. The scene of the crime, a log cabin, was a locked room sealed from the inside, and the victim, clad only in her underwear, bore a mysterious knife mark on her skin. As if tracing the lyrics of the new song "Jack the Poetical Private" by the popular rock singer Minoru Yuki, a second and then a third locked room murder occur in the same manner, and the police investigation reaches a dead end.

Sohei Saikawa, an associate professor at N University, and his student Moe Nishinosono, a third year student at the same university, decide to cooperate with the police investigation because of their connection to the resolution of a previous case. With the ideas suggested by Saikawa and Moe, the police investigation seems to make progress, but newly emerging facts make the case even more incomprehensible.

Then, a chance discovery leads Moe to come across a hint about the truth, bringing her face to face with a threat to her life ...

From the small clue that finally appeared, Saikawa unravels the entire intricately designed and grand criminal plan with beautiful logic, and he says:

"If we hadn't found that clue, the case might have remained unsolved. The fact that I was able to solve the mystery was a one-in-ten-thousand chance."

This masterpiece of brilliant and intricate logic established the popularity of the S & M series, which portrays the master-disciple detective duo most beloved by readers in the history of Japanese mystery fiction.

At the end of the book, "The Interview About Jack the Poetical Private with Dr. MORI, Hiroshi" is also included.
